A whole side of salmon, smothered in homemade Cajun butter, baked until tender, and finished with rich melted butter and sweet honey.
Smoky, sweet, buttery, and loaded with flavor. This might just become your new favorite way to cook salmon!
Ingredients
Salmon — 1 whole salmon side (2–2½ lbs), skin on, pin bones removed Unsalted butter — 6 tablespoons, softened Garlic powder — 2 teaspoons Smoked paprika — 2 teaspoons Dried Italian seasoning — 2 teaspoons Onion powder — 1 teaspoon Cayenne pepper — ½ teaspoon (adjust to taste) Black pepper — ½ teaspoon Salt — ½ teaspoon (or to taste) Crushed red pepper flakes — ¼ teaspoon (optional) Honey — 3 tablespoons, for finishing Fresh lemon juice — 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley or chives — 2 tablespoons, chopped Lemon wedges — For serving
Directions
Step 1 — Prepare the salmon Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a large baking sheet with foil or parchment. Cut the salmon side into two equal pieces and place skin-side down. Pat dry with paper towels. Step 2 — Make the Cajun butter Mix softened butter with garlic powder, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, onion powder, cayenne, black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes until you have a thick, spreadable seasoned butter. Step 3 — Coat generously Spread approximately two-thirds of the Cajun butter over the salmon. Cover the top and edges, reserving the remaining third for finishing. Step 4 — Bake until juicy Bake uncovered for approximately 15–25 minutes, depending on thickness. Check the thickest part with a food thermometer rather than relying on time alone. Step 5 — Finish with Cajun honey butter Melt the reserved Cajun butter in a small saucepan. Stir in the lemon juice. Once the salmon is cooked, spoon the melted butter over the fish, drizzle with honey, and garnish with parsley or chives. Marie's kitchen tip: For a slightly caramelized top, broil briefly for 30–60 seconds near the end, watching closely so the spices don't burn. Add the final honey drizzle after broiling.
