Making Pizza Onion Ring Chips is incredibly easy and satisfying, taking about 30-40 minutes from prep to plate.
Ingredients
2 large onions, sliced into rings 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon onion powder 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon black pepper 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian style for extra flavor) 1 cup shredded pizza cheese (such as mozzarella or a blend) Olive oil spray (or halal cooking oil) Optional toppings: sliced olives, diced bell peppers, mini pepperoni (halal), and Italian herbs
Directions
Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This is crucial for getting those chips extra crispy! Prepare the Onions: Slice your onions into medium-sized rings and set them aside. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. This will be your seasoned flour that coats the onions. Dredge the Onions: Grab one onion ring at a time, coat it in the flour mixture, and shake off any excess. Prepare the Breadcrumbs: Place the breadcrumbs on a plate. Dip each floured onion ring into the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they adhere well. Arrange on a Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and arrange the coated onion rings in a single layer. Spray with Oil: Lightly spray the onion rings with olive oil; this helps to ensure they turn golden brown. Bake: Place your baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the onion rings are crispy and golden brown. Halfway through, flip the rings for even baking. Add Cheese and Toppings: Pull the baking sheet out of the oven and sprinkle shredded cheese and any favorite toppings over the onion rings. Return to the oven for another 5 minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve with dipping sauces of your choice, like marinara or ranch dressing!
